Patient preference makes difference in treatment of PTSD

A randomized trial that found significant benefits for both exposure therapy and antidepressant medication for post‐traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has also concluded that patient preference for one treatment over the other has a bearing on outcome. The study found that patients who preferred and received psychotherapy experienced more improvement than patients who preferred psychotherapy but received the antidepressant sertraline.
