Cognitive therapy shows preventive benefit for patients in recovery on antidepressants

A randomized trial involving depressed patients in remission or recovery with antidepressant treatment has found that antidepressants are not superior to cognitive therapy in preventing relapse. Also, adding cognitive therapy to an antidepressant post‐recovery resulted in decreased risk of relapse compared with using an antidepressant alone, the researchers reported. Study results were published online April 3 in Lancet Psychiatry .
