A study of pregnant women in a Medicaid database who were receiving an antipsychotic before pregnancy has found that those who continued treatment with olanzapine or quetiapine in early pregnancy had a higher risk of developing gestational diabetes than women who discontinued the medications during pregnancy. Risk of gestational diabetes was not found to be elevated with continued use of aripiprazole, ziprasidone, or risperidone in early pregnancy. Study results were published online May 7 in the American Journal of Psychiatry .
