A nationwide cohort study of patients with first‐episode schizophrenia has found that, contrary to common belief, risk of treatment failure after discontinuation of antipsychotic treatment does not decrease with longer exposure to medication. The findings suggest that in the eight years following a first episode, it is not possible to define a safe time point for discontinuation of antipsychotic treatment.
