Lamotrigine fails to show effectiveness in borderline personality disorder trial

A placebo‐controlled trial has found no significant improvement at 52 weeks from use of lamotrigine in a group of patients with borderline personality disorder. The results contrast with those of earlier smaller trials that suggested some benefit from use of the anticonvulsant. Study results were published online April 6 in the American Journal of Psychiatry .
