Limited evidence of baclofen's effectiveness in alcohol disorder treatment

A meta‐analysis encompassing 12 randomized controlled trials comparing baclofen and placebo on a number of alcohol use outcomes found that abstinence rates were the only variable for which baclofen showed a significant advantage. The gamma‐aminobutyric acid B agonist showed no significant differences from placebo on measures of days abstinent, heavy drinking days, alcohol craving, depression, or anxiety, the researchers found.
