I think I am safe in suggesting that the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report ( MMWR ), published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is regularly read by few of our readers. While it has broadened its scope considerably over time, it retains much of its historical focus on infectious diseases and environmental exposures, with limited coverage of topics that might be of compelling interest to those of us in psychiatric medicine. However, my criteria for “compelling” were met by the MMWR paper by Anderson et al. 1 that we cover as one of our lead articles in this month's issue.
