The atypical antipsychotic risperidone is recommended as augmentation therapy to mood stabilizers for the management of patients with bipolar disorder. Antiepileptic drugs, such as lamotrigine, carbamazepine, and valproic acid, also are commonly used for management of various psychiatric disorders, including bipolar disorder.
