Use of adjunctive clonidine in the treatment of opioid‐dependent outpatients receiving treatment with buprenorphine was effective compared with placebo in prolonging abstinence, a new study has found. The study of 118 randomized patients also found that clonidine blunted the effect of daily‐life stress on drug craving. Study results were published online March 17 in the American Journal of Psychiatry .
