A pain treatment protocol that offered a variety of medication options improved mood symptoms in a group of elderly nursing home patients with moderate to severe dementia, a new study conducted in Norway has found. The findings highlight the role of untreated pain in the presence of distressing mood symptoms in some patients with dementia.
