The mathematical description of a rhomb shoulder is presented, and the equations of the bending curve, the shoulder curved surface and the fringe curve are developed. The round shoulder is also discussed as a special case of rhomb shoulder. To confirm the validity of the present mathematical description, and furthermore to give the modern methods of the design and manufacturing of the shoulder, a 3‐D rhomb shoulder is modelled on computer by using the present mathematical description, and an actual rhomb shoulder is manufactured by rapid manufacturing machine.
