The crude alkaloid of Fritillaria ebeiensis G. D. Yu et G. Q. Ji, administrated orally at a given dose, showed strong antitumour activity in inhibiting the growth of the solid type of hepatoma in mice. Chemical studies revealed that the active principles in this crude drug were verticine, verticinone and ebeiedine obtained from this species for the first time. This paper deals with the isolation and activity of these principles.
