The effects of chronic intragastric administration of the flavonoid derivatives naringenin and quercetin (100 mg/kg body weight) on mucosal lesion induced by acetic acid were studied in the rat. The evolution of the healing process of the ulcer by histological measurement was also investigated. Ranitidine was used as a positive reference drug. Compounds were consecutively administered to different groups of rats for 8, 21 and 50 days. The values for the histological mucosa regeneration index as well as the morphological results, indicated that the naringenin cure potential in prolonged treatments was higher than that of the other drugs.
