Eryngium billardieri Delar., used as a folk medicine in Turkey for the treatment of inflammatory diseases, was investigated for its antiinflammatory activity by various methods. Fractions obtained from the aerial parts and roots of E. billardieri were tested in mice for their effects on increased vascular permeability induced by acetic acid intraperitoneally, and serotonin, bradykinin, and carrageenan‐induced edemas. A significant antiinflammatory activity was observed only in the precipitated part of the butanol extract of the roots, which contains saponins.
