The effect of garlic oil on gastrointestinal propulsion of charcoal meal and castor oil‐induced diarrhea in mice was studied. It was found to depress both these parameters significantly. It is concluded that garlic oil may act as a potent relaxant of the smooth muscle of the gastrointestinal tract and that it should be further evaluated in patients exhibiting hypermotile intestinal disorders.
