In this paper, recent advances concerning clinical studies of Chinese medicinal herbs, used for the treatment of cardiovascular disease, have been reviewed. These include plants and preparations found to be useful for the treatment of coronary heart diseases, thrombotic disease, hyperlipidemia and arrhythmia. The sources, structure of active principles and the results of clinical observations in patients are presented together with pharmacological and biochemical data where available.
