Pharmaceutical statistics has changed significantly in the last twenty years. This paper reviews some of the changes in that time, from a past dominated by the P ‐value to the present day. Although the last twenty years have seen significant improvements, statistical shortcomings are not a rarity, and the impact of the public perception of statistics, medicine and the pharmaceutical industry on pharmaceutical statistics is assessed.
