It is shown, by means of density functional theory calculations, that adsorption of iodine monolayer on Bi 2 Se 3 (111) film, while preserving the intrinsic Dirac electronic states in Bi 2 Se 3 , induces also a number of Dirac cones in the system that cannot be attributed to the Rashba effect. The presented results extend the discussion on the proximity effect observed previously at a topological/non‐topological interface.
