A ferromagnet (FM), an antiferromagnet (AFM) or a plain metal? In the Rapid Research Letter on p. 71ff. Tomasz Jaroń and Wojciech Grochala report the results of electronic band structure calculations for two important fluoroargentates (II): Cs 2 AgF 4 and compressed AgF 2 . They are able to explain why Cs 2 AgF 4 is an insulating FM and they argue that α‐AgF 2 (which is a spin‐canted FM at 1 bar) should turn into an AFM insulator at 15 GPa (δ‐AgF 2 ), which should in turn become metallic or possibly superconducting upon subsequent compression (40 GPa). The AFM ordering makes layered δ‐AgF 2 the first known analogue of the parent (undoped) compounds of the oxocuprate superconductors.
