Raman spectroscopy offers a non‐contact method to characterize functionalized nanotubes and provides to analyze a successful addition reaction to the nanotube. In the study by M. Müller et al. on page 144ff. of this issue the functionalization was achieved by reductive alkylation with sodium and 1‐bromopentane.The cover picture shows a Chem3D‐calculated carbon nanotube highly functionalized with pentyl groups (the hydrogen atoms marked in red).
