The model of randomly distributed steps is examined with respect to the possibility of non‐lifetime broadening in photoemission spectra from sp‐band surface states. The peak shape is discussed in terms of hole lifetime, terrace width, and angle of emission. The model calculations are based on the parameters of the Cu(III) sp‐surface state.
