The peculiarities of absorption spectra of SrLaAIO 4 single crystals are investigated as well as the influence of thermal annealing in air and y‐irradiation ( 60 Co source) on them. A more complex structure of absorption bands was revealed, in contrast to previous investigations. The investigation of changes of absorption spectra induced by annealing and irradiation suggests that both reversible and irreversible processes take place in either case and the oxygen defects are most probably responsible for the observed effects.
