The binding energy E B of Wannier excitons in N ‐period CdMnTe/CdTe superlattices including or not a step discontinuity in the potential barrier at the interface and with varying N as well as well width is calculated by a variational method. The calculation is performed in the framework of the effective mass approximation for both heavy‐hole and light‐hole excitons. The results obtained show that E B is sensitive to those three parameters in the limit of short dimensions of the structure.
