A detailed investigation of Raman light scattering was performed in potassium titanyl phosphate (KTiOPO 4 ) using various scattering geometries. The modifications of the Raman frequencies and intensities were discussed in terms of change of selection rules. The directional dependence of the mixed mode frequencies is calculated on the basis of earlier infrared results and by using the model of Shapiro and Axe. The results of calculations show an excellent agreement between the theoretically predicted and the measured frequencies obtained in the particular case of right‐angle Raman scattering and allow an accurate assignment of the Raman structures.
