A recent paper published in this journal suggests that some clarifying remarks about the derivation of particle statistics are in order. These are given here in a somewhat more general context than is usual. In particular, we show that the statistics for electrons in semiconductors can, of course, not be used unamended for localised states. In addition, a combinatorial method of writing the grand partition function for particles in bands is here related to a more usual procedure.
