An extension of the periodic Anderson model by considering the finite f‐band width is considered. A variational method is used to study the temperature dependence of the valence n f and of the magnetic susceptibility χ s for various values of f‐band width. As the f‐band width is reduced, the low temperature peak in the susceptibility χ s gets sharpened.
