The small‐angle scattering amplitudes by large scale spherical and nonspherical inhomogeneities are considered both in the refraction and diffraction ranges. In particular, the scattering by vortex lines in superconductors is discussed. In all cases the range is determined where the Fraunhofer diffraction part of the amplitude gives the main contribution to the scattering amplitude. This is important since the Fraunhofer diffraction leads to another dependence on the transfer momentum than the refraction contribution in the refraction range.
