A theoretical model of the density of states for random binary alloys is presented in the dilute limit based on a mean‐field approach. The model incorporates both diagonal and off‐diagonal disorder as well as short‐range order. Extensive results are reported for the density of states and various physical quantities in the limit of weak concentration and compared to other theories.
