Detailed measurements of the pyroelectric coefficient and optical birefringence in betaine arsenate, in a temperature range centred at the ferroelectric phase transition ( T c2 ≈ 121 K) are reported. The critical behaviour of the spontaneous polarization is analyzed from these data and a cross‐over between two different critical regimes is evidenced. Results of linear and non‐linear dielectric constant measured along [001] are also reported.
