The structure of the PO   3 2−radical is examined by ESR spectroscopy in γ‐irradiated betaine phosphite. The ESR spectra of the PO   3 2−radical indicate two phase transitions of betaine phosphite at T c1 = 355 K and T c2 = 216 K. The symmetry of the ESR spectra of the PO   3 2−center in the paraelastic, antiferrodistortive, and ferroelectric phases of betaine phosphite is in accordance with the space groups P2 1 /m, P2 1 /c, and P2 1 .
