XPS measurements were performed on in situ split KTaO 3 , KNbO 3 , and cubic KTa 0. 69 Nb 0. 31 O 3 single crystals. The spectra are compared with the results of electronic structure calculations for the pure bulk materials in the cubic phase, based on the self‐consistent scalar‐relativistic linearized muffin‐tin orbital (LMTO) method. Comparing the experimental and calculated spectra good agreement is found. Angle‐resolved XPS experiments show distinct surface contributions to the recorded spectra, especially to the potassium peaks and in the valence band region.
