Some properties of a surface polaron in polar crystals are studied. The effective Hamiltonian of the surface polaron is derived using a perturbation method. If we consider the interaction between phonons of different wave vectors in the recoil process, the influence on the effective Hamiltonian, effective potential, and effective mass are discussed. Numerical calculations for GaAs, ZnS, and AgBr crystals, as examples, are performed.
