Detailed Mössbauer effect studies on Fe 3− x Cr x Si alloys show a solubility of Cr up to a composition of x = 0.5 and a precipitation of Cr 3 Si phase beyond this composition. The effect of Cr on the hyperfine fields at the inequivalent (AC) and (B) sites is understood in terms of a local environment model with Cr substituting at the B site with a very small moment. Presence of B32 order besides the DO 3 order is also indicated.
