Abstract An improved correlated effective‐field theory is introduced for the S = ½ pure Ising model. The theory is based on an approximate decoupling formula for a spin operator which is more reasonable than that in the correlated effective‐field theory (CEFT) and is applied to some lattices for calculating the Curie temperatures. The results are superior to CEFT.
