Cathodoluminescence (CL) measurements made on pure KCl and KBr crystals are reported for the temperature range 40 to 300 K. The F‐band self‐absorption is studied by using different beam energies and different incident angles. The intrinsic emissions such as self‐trapped exciton (STE) emission, perturbed STE emission, and α‐centre emission are identified after the correction for the self‐absorption. The temperature dependence of the intensities of these emission bands are discussed as well.
