The elastic and inelastic backscattering from a resonance absorber bound to an oscillating quartz crystal is analyzed by means of 57 Co Mössbauer γ‐radiation. The experiments are performed in the energy coordinate using the Doppler motion of the source and in the time domain with quantum beat techniques. Examples are presented of modulated backscattering spectra from the energy analysis and quantum beat signals from excitations with frequencies even below the radiation width.
