This paper is devoted to the study of the renormalization of wave functions and coupling constant in dissipative two‐state tunneling systems, where the quantum effects of the tunneling particle on the phonon bath, as we will show, cannot be simply ignored. Through a general discussion of the extended objects of quantum origin, the renormalization factors are calculated in a simple approach. The effective phonon coupling constant is obtained. The possible improvement on the calculation of the renormalized tunneling parameter is briefly discussed.
