The quantum‐mechanical theory of the image potential, which was developed recently on the basis of the polaronic approach is completed now with the consideration of the spatial dispersion of dielectric permittivity describing the microscopic inhomogeneity of a crystal lattice. The presence of nonmonotonicity in the coordinate dependence of the image potential energy obtained in the previous theory occurred to take place in our theory as well, but now it is less pronounced.
