The elastic and inclastic scattering from piezoelectrically excited X‐cut quartz crystals is investigated with γ‐diffractometry from the (11 2 0) Bragg planes using a 57 Co Mössbauer source and a resonance absorber. The investigation is performed in the energy coordinate by means of Doppler motion of the source and in the time domain by means of the quantum beat technique. Examples of γ‐Brillouin spectra from the energy analysis and quantum beat signals of the quartz vibrations with frequencies even below the radiation width are presented.
