The broadening of the plasma resonance absorption peak in metallic microcrystals is calculated for spherical and cylindrical geometries. A high, but finite surface barrier is employed in the quantum mechanical model. The finiteness of the barrier is found to lead to a larger broadening than predicted by previous calculations, in which an infinite surface barrier was assumed.
