Synchrotron‐radiation‐excited photoemission is studied from a monolayer film of Gd on Cu(100). Resonant enhancement of the 5s, 5p, and 4f core‐level intensities is observed for photon energies in the region of the Gd 4d → 4f threshold. The intensity ratios of the components of the Gd 5p and 5s multiplet structures are found to be modified at the resonance as a consequence of the different parentage of the photoexcited final states involved; satellite structures are also observed corresponding to final states that are unobtainable off‐resonance.
