An analysis of grain‐boundary diffusion for a real polycrystal is given. The non‐uniformity of diffusion permeability of the grain interface and the non‐uniform pumping of diffusants from the boundary into the bulk due to dislocations are taken into account. The meaning of the grain‐boundary and volume diffusion coefficients for different annealing regimes is elucidated. The conditions of the true C‐regime for a polycrystal is obtained.
