In the framework of London theory the problem of vortex nucleation in a thin film of an anisotropic superconductor is studied. The Gibbs free energy of a vortex as a function of its distance from the surface of the film is calculated. This energy is considered as a surface barrier opposing penetration of the vortices into the film. The barrier disappears when a certain value of external magnetic field – the field of first penetration – is applied. The strength of this field is calculated as a function of an angle between the anisotropy axis and the direction of external magnetic field.
