High Pressure Structural Phase Transition in BaSe and BaTe

The structural phase transition due to high pressure in BaSe and BaTe is investigated for the first time using an interionic potential approach, based on the shell model formulation. The model parameters are derived using dielectric properties. The results show good agreement with experiment. The nature of the force constants at equilibrium and high pressure is discussed.
