A difference equation approach to standing spin waves in a multilayer film with inhomogeneous interlayers is developed. An exact procedure of solving the eigenvalue problem of dynamical matrix by its formal reduction to a small set of linear homogeneous equations is proposed. The effective parameters suitable for the study of the spin wave spectra and the spatial behaviour of the spin wave modes are introduced.
