The structural ordering mechanism of cations in octahedral positions of spinels of the type 1:1 is discussed using group‐theoretical methods of phase transition research. The structure of ordered phases is deduced theoretically from that of disordered phase. Qualitative pictures of possible displacements of atoms near phase transition temperatures are given. The experimental data are discussed.
