An extended 2‐site model is considered for phonon‐assisted quantum diffusion which beyond the conventional coordinate coupling also embodies a momentum coupling initiated by the nonadiabatic behaviour of the tunneling particle. The Mori vector formalism is used to derive the fundamental Green functions, which govern both, the thermodynamics and the diffusive process. The formalism is established in such a manner that it satisfies the lowest four sum rules. Closed expressions are derived for the internal energy and the specific heat and the temporal behaviour is also discussed.
