The time‐differential perturbed angular correlation (TDPAC) of the 133–482 keV γ‐ray cascade in 181 Ta in the intermetallic compound Hf 2 Fe is measured in the temperature range 78 to 903 K. At 78 K the following parameters of the electric field gradient (EFG) at the two unequivalent Hf sites are obtained: V zz (1)= (1.91 ± 0.14) × 10 22 V/m 2 , η (1) = 0.505(7); V zz (2)= (1.05 ± 0.2) × 10 21 V/m 2 , η (2) = 0 (fixed parameter). Discontinuities in the temperature dependence of the EFG parameters at T ≈ 600 K are observed as well as an indication at the possible existence of the third Hf site above 600 K.
