Simple relations of the ideal cohesive strength of crystals with b.c.c., f.c.c., and diamond structures to other physical properties are derived. The interatomic potential is approximated by the generalized Morse and Lennard‐Jones functions. Generally, the calculated values and the data previously published by other authors are consistent within a factor of two.
