An investigation is made of magnetostatic modes modified by exchange interaction in anisotropic ferromagnets; and it gives a macroscopic description of influence of exchange interaction on Damon‐Eshbach surface modes. The classic Damon‐Eshbach (DE) and De Wames and Wolfram (DWW) theories of magnetic excitations in thin films is extended. A remarkable qualitative difference from previous theory is that all the spin wave vectors normal to the film are related to the exchange parameter. In case of weak exchange interaction, the critical angle between surface wave and bulk wave is modified according to the new circumstance and the spin wave dispersion relation is analysed.
